CODE OF CONDUCT FOR NAMIBIAN
TOURGUIDES
While engaged in his/her profession a tour guide shall:
1) represent his/her country objectively, honestly, with integrity
and in an unbiased manner
2) be loyal to the employer he/she represents with due consideration to
the interest of any overseas operator
3) comply with the administrative and organized requirements of the employer
4) guide his/her guests in a culturally and environmentally responsible
manner
5) not solicit guests for his/her gain
6) not solicit gratuities or influence his/her guests for personal financial
gain
7) take pride in his/her profession and vehicle / equipment
8) act in a responsible manner e.g. avoid potentially dangerous situations
9) carry out the program or itinerary as instructed, unless circumstances
prevent this
10) refrain from administering medication or treatment unless qualified
to do so
11) at no time be under the influence of alcohol or drugs while on tour
12) be available for his/her guests when needed
13) avoid inappropriate familiarity
14) be courteous to guests and colleagues, hosts and personal at all times
15) guide with tact and authority without undue assertiveness
16) be tolerant of different points of view
17) be diplomatic and patient and avoid potential confrontation
18) be helpful, punctual and reliable
19) be appropriately dressed and well groomed while on tour
20) prepare thoroughly for each tour
21) endeavor to continuously broaden his/her knowledge
