The women’s project Penduka alone is a good enough reason for a visit to Katutura, the typically African suburb of the capital city, Windhoek. The craft centre, shop, restaurant and accommodation facilities are idyllically situated at Goreangab Dam.
Penduka means 'to wake up'. It is an initiative by women in Katutura which combines a flourishing number of small local enterprises, from a craft shop to accommodation. A visit to Penduka, with or without spending the night, is the perfect opportunity to get out of the city and see what the local community is doing to advance itself. This inspiring urban 'oasis' will add another dimension to your stay in the capital city. At Penduka's well-stocked shop you can choose from a fascinating range of locally produced craft items. Watch the women of Katutura at work as they apply their skills and creativity in the craft centre. They will be happy to explain details of the production process with you. Gain an insight into different Namibian cultures at the traditional village and have a leisurely meal at the boma restaurant overlooking Goreangab Dam. You do not have to worry about driving back as you can spend the night in a rondavel, one of the individually decorated round huts for guests. Prices Rondavel - N$ 180.00 to N$ 200.00 per hut per day Other prices on request Location At Goreangab Dam in Katutura (Windhoek) How to get there Follow Independence Avenue through Katutura, cross Otjimuise Road and continue into Eveline Street past Queen Supermarket.
