
The Omatako valley in northeastern Namibia is one of the life-lines in the area of the Ju'hoansi San (Bushmen). The campsite serves not only as a place for pitching tent for the night, it is above all an opportunity to get to know the people who live in this part of the country.
At Omatako Valley Campsite you have the unique opportunity to meet Ju'hoansi San people and experience their traditions and culture. You can go on a guided walk through the bush and learn about tracking game, you can participate in gathering and preparing veld (bush) foods, and in the evening you can enjoy traditional dance and music. These activities should be booked in advance. Excursions on horseback can also be arranged. Omatako Valley Campsite consists of several spacious camping sites with barbeque facilities, water taps and an ablution block with hot showers and flush toilets. For accommodation you can also rent one of the very basic huts. Furthermore there is a craft shop. Chilled drinks and firewood are sold at site. How to get there Take the B 8 main road from Grootfontein towards Rundu; 55 km north of Grootfontein you turn onto the C 44 gravel road to Tsumkwe. Continue for 100 km until you reach the veterinary fence and checkpoint. From there it is another 11 km; Omatako Valley Restcamp is on your right. The road is suitable for any vehicle.
