The Namibian Warmblood Association was founded in 1996, but the country's horse
breeding legacy started over 100 years ago.
The first Warmbloods were imported from Prussia and Hungary. These were
followed by Ermanerich and Alba who sired the first horses that took part in
sport activities like showjumping and dressage.
As the interest in the equine sport increased Namibian breeders specialized on
breeding good sport horses for all disciplines. Which proved to be successful as
Namibian breed horses gained international success under South African riders in
Helsinki and Rome 1998.
