Profile of Owner
Roger Kemmerich, 44 years old, left Germany for Namibia 18 years ago.
He has fifteen years experience as a tour guide in Namibia, Botswana,
Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Malawi, and Tanzania. In the process
of criss-crossing Africa he has become an experienced biker with thousands
of kilometres travelled. He will lead the bulk of the tours on offer here
("Too much fun", he says). He also is a qualified guide that is well
informed about Namibia and should be able to satisfy your curiosity
with information on the country, people, fauna, and flora. Mr. Kemmerich
is also well informed about neighbouring countries. It is possible for
him to organize camping safaris and expeditions in these countries if
informed in advance. A support vehicle with tents, cooking utensils,
etc. can be provided allowing you to focus on a motorcycle adventure
of a life-time. In some of these countries one can barely get by
without camping!
WE WILL PROVIDE:
Whenever possible, riders will be equipped with the BMW 1000 GS Paris-Dakar motorcycle. Smaller riders can choose between the 650 Honda Alpine, BMW F650, and Yamaha 660
Tar and gravel roads in Namibia are generally well maintained. Tours start out on tar roads allowing riders to adapt to their bikes. Less confident riders will be assisted by the guide following the group.
At least half of the distance travelled will be on gravel roads. Riders will be given a brief introduction course on what to expect.
Medical evacuation insurance is included in the cost of the trip.
Though the motorcycles are insured, the client will be liable for the excess due to the insurance company if he/she damages a bike while operating it, or causes an accident. Excess will not exceed Euro 400 per bike.
Each rider will be supplied with a map indicating the routes to be travelled and stop-off points. Riders will be briefed every morning before departure on what to expect in terms of riding conditions, which may vary seasonally.
All tank-bags, strap-downs, etc. will be supplied to the client. Additional luggage should be limited to soft bags only.
THE CLIENT SHOULD NOTE:
Clients will supply their own helmets and protective clothing. Extra warm clothes and gloves will be needed during cold months (May-September).
Clients are responsible for their own travel insurance.
The client must hold a valid license for motorcycles with and engine capacity larger than 125cc. The license must have been issued at least two years before (exceptions possible in certain cases).
While most routes are easy to navigate, clients need to be sure that they have the stamina to complete longer trips.
For maximum enjoyment, experience of biking on gravel roads is recommended. If possible, practice in advance.
Speeds will be restricted to 120 km/h tar road, and 80 km/h on gravel. Speeds will be adapted to suit individual needs.
SPECIAL REQUESTS:
A client that wishes to bring along a spouse that will not be biking, can rent a back-up vehicle. If needed, a driver/guide can be hired at a rate of Euro 75 per day. Accommodation and meals for the guide are extra.
Custom-made tours for areas not covered under these itineraries can be arranged given 3 months prior notification.
Groups bigger than six bikers can be accommodated given 3 months prior notification.
Special tours to e.g. South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi, Botswana, Zambia, Angola and Tanzania can be arranged given three months prior notification.
PLEASE ALSO NOTE FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
All breakfast and dinner included except dinner in Windhoek and Swakopmund.
Lunch is provided by us at Etosha Park, Kavita Lion Lodge, and Omarunga Lodge.
Alcoholic beverages are purchased at the client's expense.
FURTHER REMARKS:
You will notice that the price of the tour will differ
according to the number of people participating. The reason
for this is that certain fixed costs are divided by the number of customers on the tour. These are the fees, meals, and accommodation for the guide, the cost of maintaining the guide's motorcycle during the trip, and the cost entrance fees and permits.
General Remarks on the Tour:
The idea behind these tours is not to race across Africa.
It is about cruising while experiencing the beauty of nature.
You are taking active part in creating this adventure.
On this tour you will be forced to work as a team.
